Was it really a surprise? Really?
On one hand there was Wake Forest, a relatively young team that proved time and time again this year that it could beat elite teams like North Carolina and Duke, yet couldn't handle the bottom dwellers of the ACC -- like 12-19 Georgia Tech. On the other hand there was Cleveland State, a program that knocked Indiana and Bobby Knight out of the first round of the 1986 NCAA Tournament -- and then proceeded to find its way into the Sweet Sixteen.
Also, don't forget that the Vikings traveled to Syracuse in December and beat the Orange in front of 15,000 of their own fans, or that they beat a pretty good Butler team in the Horizon League conference championship game last week. This was a legitimate opponent, one that matched Wake Forest every single time the Demon Deacons tried to go on what everybody expected would be the run that would win the game.
